AWIB’s mission of empowering students is a vote of confidence in the determined optimism of the next generation – knowing that we aren’t satisfied with leaving the world in the same state that we find it, but strive for consistent improvement and innovation, small and large.

I have only the highest gratitude to AWIB for opening doors for not only myself, but also so many extraordinary leaders over the years. This opportunity is a joyous confirmation of our limitless passion and dedication towards improving the projects and missions that we pursue.

Major: Applied Economics and Management  |  Minor: Environmental Science and Sustainability

Maria Jiang is the Co-Founder of the Green Revolving Fund which provides capital to the university’s individual colleges and units to fund energy conservation projects. Her goal is to create interdisciplinary solutions to climate change, and she built partnerships between Cornell Facilities and Sustainability Office and various environmental organizations on campus. Green Revolving Fund is the nation’s first academically integrated and student run company that focuses on sustainable energy.

Maria was instrumental to Green Revolving Fund’s success; she increased funding through community fundraising and identified an annual steam cost savings. Under Maria’s leadership, undergraduates and MBAs in mechanical engineering, computer science, and industrial labor relations collaborated on potential energy efficiency efforts.

Maria also has leadership roles in two other student organizations- Environmental Collaborative (ECO), a student alliance of 40 organizations for campus commitment towards carbon neutrality by 2035 and Ellevate Network, a women in business organization. Maria had an extensive role in securing byline funding from Cornell University’s Student Activity Fee for ECO. The funding will allow the student alliance to expand their events in size and scope, and to continue to educate the campus community about climate action causes.

As VP of marketing for Ellevate Network, Maria reshaped its online presence and branding to take on a more inclusive vision of professional and personal development. Under Maria’s leadership, membership applications doubled from the previous year. The Ellevate Network now has members in every one of Cornell University’s seven undergraduate Colleges.
