Asian Women in Business and the New York/New Jersey Minority Purchasing Council sponsored a conference on Certification and Procurement Opportunities for Minority/Women Business Enterprises. The conference was held at the corporate facilities of TIAA-CREF. A panel of representatives from the Empire State Development Corporation, NY/NJ Minority Purchasing Council, New Jersey Transit, Port Authority of New York/New Jersey and US Small Business Administration explained the benefits of getting certified as a minority/woman business owner and the various steps involved. In the second half of the conference, corporate procurement officials from Adecco North America LLC, Amtrak, Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York, Metlife, Pfizer and TIAA-CREF provided valuable information on the procurement process, including do's and dont's while trying to procure a corporate contract. Attendees highly rated the conference, which served as a forum for attendees to meet and interact with representatives from certifying authorities, as well as corporate procurement officials.
