AWIB's conference "Doing Business with Corporate America: What Every Minority/Woman Owner Business Should Know" was held to a packed house at Cornell University's Institute for Women and Work. The conference offered small business owners a chance to learn the corporate procurement process and best ways to position their companies to get a foot in the door. Attendees were provided details on what corporations are buying and prospects for small business owners to become suppliers of products and services to companies. In addition, they received an overview of opportunities for small businesses in the rebuilding and revitalization of Lower Manhattan. They met and interacted with representatives from Allstate Insurance Company, Bank of New York, Boise Office Solutions, IBM, Lehman Brothers, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and NBC. Attendees also got vital information on M/WBE certification, the process and benefits, from Empire State Development Corporation, MTA, NJ Transit, NYC Department of Small Business Services, Port Authority of NY/NJ and Women Presidents' Educational Organization.
