AASA was established in 1992 under the direction of Dr. Karen Kwan and the other like-minded students dedicated to the pursuit of equity and social justice for their fellow Asian Americans. Over the past 21 years, our organization has grown from a small group of students to arguably the largest, most active student organization based on the University of Utah and in the state.

The Refugee and Immigrant Center at the Asian Association of Utah (RIC-AAU) is a private, non-profit and community-based organization. The RIC-AAU was founded in 1977. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of refugees and other immigrants. We provide culturally-sensitive and language-specific social services that include education, employment services, advocacy, mental health treatment, domestic violence counseling, substance abuse treatment for adults and youth, parenting classes, English Classes, after-school tutoring and activities, and case management.

The Asian Festival began in 1977 when an influx of Southeast Asian refugees began settling in Utah. The festival was to introduce the majority population to these new minority groups. Since that first festival, the annual pageant has offered a consistent performing stage for upto 15 different Asian and Pacific Islander communities. In each case, we have first generation leaders teaching second, third and fourth generations dance, music, crafts, cooking and ethnic skills.

The Utah Chinese New Year Celebration Committee (UTCNYCC) consists of a volunteer group of community members from 17 local Chinese organizations for one common cause to promote and celebrate Chinese Culture in Utah. It is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit making committee under The Cast-UT (Chinese Association for Science and Technology, Utah Chapter) a 501(c )(3) status organization.

The Chinese Society of Utah was founded in 1986. It is the first Chinese organization formed by new immigrants from Taiwan. The Chinese Society of Utah replaced the Chinese for Community Action in 1986 and became the representative Chinese organization in the Asian Society of Utah. The main mission is to promote unity and understanding among Taiwanese Chinese community and to expose and educate Taiwanese and Chinese culture to the community and to broaden their perspectives and understanding of the culture, at the same time bridging cultural discrepancies.
