2011 AWIB Entrepreneurial Leadership Award Winner
Marie is based in California, but she was born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in New York City. She graduated from Wellesley College and the Weill Cornell Medical College and headed out west to California, working for private dermatologists. After an intense nine years of learning and growing, Marie wanted more control over the business and in 2003 she openedPremier Dermatology in the Bay Area. Since opening its doors, Marie’s business has grown exponentially which is attributed to her excellent reputation, expertise and the care she shows for her patients. As a Board Certified Dermatologist and Asian skin expert, Marie’s primary focus is on skin care. She has patients who travel from across the country to have a consultation with her. Marie states that she is thrilled when she sees how her patients’ lives have changed because their skin has improved. Marie did not learn entrepreneurship at medical school and she credits business organizations and mentors for assisting her. Her advice to entrepreneurs is “Find mentors that can give you advice and help you build your business so you can learn from their mistakes as well as accomplishments.”
Marie wanted to share her knowledge about having great skin with a wider audience and wrote a book on skincare titled “Asian Beauty Secrets: Ancient and Modern Tips from Japan, Korea and China”. The 2011 book covers inner and outer beauty and traces the history of beauty and skin care in the Far East, with relevant and timely tips and treatments for health and beauty regimens. She says “As a business woman, writing a book is something that gives you more credibility. It’s a good way to brand yourself and the product you are trying to sell”. As if not busy enough, Marie is on staff at Sequoia Hospital and the California Pacific Medical Center and is an Adjunct Clinical Instructor of Dermatology at Stanford University.
Marie beams with joy when she talks about how her children tell her they are proud of their mom. Marie lives in the Bay area with her son and two daughters. |
