2011 AWIB Entrepreneurial Leadership Award Winner
Dolly was born and raised in India and holds a Master’s degree from the Delhi School of Economics in Delhi, India. Dolly came to the United States when she was 25-years old and as she states “My entrepreneurial journey started the day I came to this country. All I had was a backpack and 200 dollars”.
Dolly obtained a Masters in Interactive Technologies from Harvard University and that is where C²’s initial vision was born. Since its inception, C²has been on the cutting edge, and Dolly recognized the importance of computers long before they were mainstream. Dolly has always focused on insourcing jobs instead of outsourcing and she’s worked hard over the years to make her business grow. In 1997, C² started to see tremendous growth, eventually climbing to $60 million in annual revenue. The company is a family-owned business and offers small-business flexibility and big-business stability.
Dolly has big-name clients from the government, defense, and private-sectors. They include the Departments of State and Security; the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy; Lockheed Martin and more. Dolly says she has built her company from reputation and now has over 100 customers.
Since Dolly built her company from the ground up, she is committed to helping small businesses. That’s why C² partners with small emerging businesses through a mentoring program. Dolly is also the President Elect of TiE’s DC chapter, a global organization that fosters entrepreneurship. She has launched a mentoring program for emerging entrepreneurs and high school students.
Dolly gives back in other ways. She serves on several boards, including the George Mason University Foundation, University of Maryland BC, Virginia Governor’s Board of Information Providers, and the Oberoi Education Society. She is in the process of starting a college in New Delhi and is currently looking for universities to partner with.
Dolly’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is “If you have an idea, you need to find a way to execute it. That’s the key when it comes to being a good business woman”.
Dolly is frequently quoted in newspapers and magazines and is also featured on major television networks. She is the recipient of several international awards, including the “Bravo Award,” “INDUS Women Leaders Award,” “Pride of India,” the “Women Who Mean Business Award,” the “50 Most Influential Minority Women Entrepreneurs”and many more.
Dolly’s husband also works at C² and they live with their two children, ages 17 and 15, in the DC area. While Dolly isn’t busy with work or family, aspires to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro next year and is training for it!
