Born to Lead: Empowerment in the New Decade Speaker Bios MODERATOR: Alina Cho is a national correspondent for CNN as well as a contributor to American Morning on CNN/U.S. Cho joined the network in February 2004. Most recently, Cho covered the historic election of President Barack Obama. Cho was live from Chicago's Grant Park, where Obama gave his acceptance speech. She spoke exclusively with Oprah Winfrey, one of Obama’s biggest supporters, about Obama’s win. In 2008, Cho provided rare, live coverage from inside North Korea for CNN. Cho was part of the official press delegation traveling with the New York Philharmonic for the orchestra’s groundbreaking concert in Pyongyang. She also provided a personal look at the division of North and South Korea through the eyes of her parents, who are survivors of the Korean War. Cho was also part of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning CNN team that covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans. Before joining CNN, Cho was an anchor and correspondent for ABC News. During her tenure with ABC News, Cho was a regular substitute anchor for World News Now and World News This Morning. She also served as the network’s online correspondent for ABC News Live and as a correspondent for NewsOne, the network’s affiliate news service. Cho reported from the United Nations during the months prior to the war in Iraq and covered the sniper attacks near Washington, D.C., in 2002. Cho earned a master’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and an undergraduate degree in communications from Boston College.
Neeti Bhalla Neeti is a member of the Investment Strategy Group in New York and is responsible for tactical asset allocation decisions for Private Wealth Management clients. Neeti joined Goldman Sachs in 2000 as an analyst within the Investment Banking Division in London. She joined the Investment Strategy Group in 2002. Neeti was named managing director in 2007. Prior to joining the firm, Neeti was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, where she earned an MBA and an MSC in Social Anthropology in 2000. Earlier, Neeti worked at the Central Bank of Kenya and the Nairobi Stock Exchange after earning a BA in Economics from Kenyatta University in 1996.
As Senior Vice President of the Premier Client Group (PCG), Anne leads a national sales and support organization of over 2,000 professionals responsible for delivering a full range of communications solutions, including wireless and wired services, to enterprise customers. Representing one of AT&T’s largest retail business markets with revenues of over $9 Billion, PCG provides this diverse client set with comprehensive account management that encompasses the entire portfolio of AT&T products and services. These customers hail from virtually every industry ranging in size from Fortune 500 companies to mid-market businesses. Throughout her 20+ years in the telecommunications industry, Anne has held leadership positions in hardware and system engineering, sales, marketing, customer care, international operations, product management, and strategic planning. Her responsibilities have ranged from managing advanced solution portfolios – like Voice over IP and Contact Center Solutions – to driving quality and process management initiatives for AT&T’s satellite services worldwide. In 2005, she played a key role in the AT&T/SBC merger with overall responsibility for integrating Sales and Marketing. After the merger, Anne led AT&T’s Business Segment Marketing, supporting the diverse needs of customers ranging from wholesale markets to small business to global multinationals. Prior to her current assignment leading PCG, she was responsible for AT&T’s Select Accounts and Indirect Channels organization, where she led both direct sales channel responsibilities for mid-market customers nationwide and indirect sales channel responsibilities across all of AT&T’s enterprise markets. Anne holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with Distinction from The Johnson School at Cornell University, as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. She was a Bellcore Engineering Scholar and was awarded the Lester B. Knight Scholarship for Excellence in Engineering and Business from The Johnson School. Over the years, Anne has been recognized for her contributions, receiving the Corporate Leadership Award from APCA, the Outstanding Women in Somerset County Award, and the YWCA-NYC Academy of Women Leaders. Most recently, she received the Distinguished Services Award from the Chinese Institute of Engineers – USA/GNYC, and was recognizing nationally as one of the 2009 Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business as well as being honored with the Who’s Who in Asian American Communities Leaders and Legends Award. Anne lives in Neshanic Station, New Jersey, with her husband and their two daughters. Millie is the General Counsel of the Citigroup Private Bank. She started her career at Citigroup in 1995 as part of the Corporate Law department of Travelers Group focusing on mergers and acquisitions. She became the General Counsel for the global investments businesses of Citigroup in 1998. Prior to working at Citigroup, she was a corporate lawyer at the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton in NY focusing on complex corporate and securities transactional work. She attended Columbia University law school and Wellesley College majoring in Economics and Political Science.
Prior to joining Evercore, Ms. Sun was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch where she advised pharmaceutical, biotechnology and specialty pharmaceutical companies on a range of strategic and financing transactions and led the firm’s relationships with leading healthcare private equity investors. At Merrill Lynch, Ms. Sun was involved in advising Immunex on its sale to Amgen, PDL on its strategic sale process, American Bioscience on its merger with American Pharmaceutical Partners, Abraxis Biosciences on its spin-off from APP Pharma, Esprit on its sale to Allergan, SangStat on its sale to Genzyme, Corus on its sale to Gilead Sciences, Eli Lilly on its acquisition of Applied Molecular Evolution, and Blackstone on its investment in Stiefel Laboratories, among others. Ms. Sun began her career in investment banking in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of First Boston in 1992. Ms. Sun received a B.A. in Economics and Japanese Studies from Wellesley College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
