 AWIB Annual Procurement Opportunities Conference

Asian Women in Business understands that for minority and women-owned businesses to grow, they need additional opportunities with corporations and government agencies and as a part of our mission, we strive to build the connections between MWBE's and corporate and government buyers.

On an annual basis, AWIB sponsors a procurement opportunities conference which not only provides information on the processes but also matches pre-qualified minority and women-owned businesses with corporate buyers.

The AWIB 2016 Procurement Opportunities Conference

The AWIB conference fostered partnerships for minority and women-owned businesses. Now in its 13th year, the Procurement Conference became one of the premier events for small businesses in the tri-state area. It was designed to help minority and women owned
firms grow in an increasingly competitive business environment.

Attendees networked and learned about government and private opportunities in our extensive exhibition area; and pre-qualified vendors had a chance to meet privately with Corporate buyers looking for specific products and services. The conference also included industry expert-led panel discussions, which offered valuable insight into the procurement process, how to sell and maximize networking, and new initiatives designed for MWBEs.  Connections were made to propel your businesses forward.

Guest Speakers
The Honorable Gale Brewer, Manhattan Borough President
Michael Owh, Director of the Mayor's Office of Contract Services
The Honorable Scott M. Stringer, New York City Comptroller

Workshops:
  • Doing Business with Corporate America
A panel of corporate experts shared best practices to close the deal

  • Marketing to the Government
Government & regional representatives discussed secrets to landing those coveted contracts

  • Selling made Simple: Refining your Sales Technique
Sales techniques were taught as well as how to be strategic about finding clients, networking with a purpose, closing the deal, and growing your customer base. Enterprise holdings taught how to maximize the time spent at the conference and how to make meetings and engagements more productive.

  • How MWBEs can become involved in the Affordable Housing Mandate
As a part of Mayor de Blasio's newest initiative while making New York City more diverse, attendees learned about affordable housing opportunities (development, construction, other) and resources available to MWBEs to assist them in competing for these opportunities.

Wellness Lounge
Attendees relaxed in between conference events at our on-site retreat with a variety of complimentary services ranging from manicures and massages to meditation and acupressure, using natural, eco-friendly products! SUNDAYS, your personal health, happiness and well-being provider, guided guests into a relaxing state and left feeling transformed. Attendees reduced their stress while sipping some healthy refreshments and for more luxury, gave their hands a treat with natural products.

AWIB Small Business Members who were eligible for an exhibition table showcased their products and/or services. As an exhibitor, they were able to readily network with government and corporate buyers as well as the many small business owners in attendance. More information on becoming a Small Business Member can be found at: www.awib.org/membership.

Online Registration (an automated process) and a completed Pre-Qualification Form were required for matchmaking.  MWBE certification was not required. The deadline to submit the pre-qualification form was June 6, 2016 (Extended to June 9th).  Matches were made according to product/service requested by the corporations, and therefore not guaranteed.  As always, AWIB members received special consideration - if you support us, we support you.
